2. Available XG settings

These 2 XG Drum mixer maps for MIDI channel 10 or 01 offer easy access to all the available sound parameters of 42 XG drum instruments (738 dials and switches in all !). Unfortunately many futher available drum instruments are missing, but this map already reaches the limitations for mixer maps under Cubase 5.
With these maps you're able to customize the most popular XG drum kit instruments in wide ranges. Additionally I've included a Master section with global Channel/Part settings.

Section 'GLOBAL SETUP CHANNEL 10' (or CH 01)
The Master section includes global MIDI channel/XG part settings:

• Channel dials for Master Volume, Panorama, Random Panorama, Reverb send, Chorus send and Variation send
• Switches (Bank select MSB and LSB) for direct access to 11 drum kits
• Switch 'Drum Mode 1' (or 2) to select the 'Drum Setup Mode' for this MIDI channel
• Switch 'Reset Drum 1' (or 2) to reset the current drum kit back to the XG default settings
• The switches 'All Sound Off' and 'All Notes Off' to interrupt immediately any sounds of this MIDI channel

42 channel XG drum instrument mixer
This mixer offers 17 controls for each of the 42 available XG drum instruments:

• Volume
• Panorama L/R
• Random Panorama
• Reverb Send
• Chorus Send
• Variation Send
• Tune Fine (+/- 63 cent)
• Tune Coarse (halftone steps)
• Filter CutOff Frequency
• Filter Resonance
• Envelope Generator Attack Time
• Envelope Generator Decay1 Time
• Envelope Generator Decay2 Time
• Key Assign 'multi' oder 'single'
  
• Receive MIDI Note-On message
  (Tip: You can simply mute single instruments with these switches!)
• Receive MIDI Note-Off message

3. Important notes

Basicly most switches/knobs of these two mixer maps are 'self explaining'.
Only a few switches/knobs need further information:

• Variation Effect
  I recommend to use the 'System Mode' for the Variation effect - like this it can be used from any XG part (including parts in 'Drum Mode'). Otherwise you'll need to switch the Variation effect to part 10 or 01, depending on the used drum mixer map.
  
  
• Reverb-, Chorus- and Variation-Send of single drum instruments
  These knobs won't be available, until you activate the effect knobs in the 'GLOBAL SETUP' of the drum mixer maps.
  
  
• The 'Drum Mode' switches
  These switches will activate the mode 'Drum Setup 1' (for part 10/channel 10) or 'Drum Setup 2' (for part 01/channel 01), depending on the used mixer map ('XG_Drum1.mix' or 'XG_Drum2.mix').
  By XG default Part 10 is in mode 'Drum Setup 1', but Part 01 is normally in 'Voice Mode' !
  For this reason you first need to activate the switch 'Drum Mode 2' of the mixer map 'XG_Drum2.mix' in a song to activate mode 'Drum Setup 2'. Only like this you'll be able to use a second drum kit with Part 01 - otherwise Part 01 would keep in 'Voice Mode' without any access to a second drum kit!!!
  
  
• Instrument names:
  The names of the drum instruments in my mixer maps are only guilty for the XG drum kits:
  'Standard Kit', 'Standard 2 Kit', 'Room Kit', 'Rock Kit' and 'Jazz Kit'.
  Any further XG drum kits (i.e. 'Brush Kit, 'Classic Kit' or any 'SFX Kit') will have different Instrument>Key-assignments.
  
  
• Switches 'Reset Drum1' and 'Reset Drum2':
  With these switches you can 'reset' a drum kit to the default settings - like this you can discard any changes you've made.
  
  
• Switches 'All Sound Off' and 'All Notes Off':
  With these switches you can interrupt any sound of drum kit immediately.
  (Note: only these two switches are based on MIDI-control-change-commands - all other switches/knobs of these drum mixer maps are based on SysEx commands!)
  
  
• Switch 'Key Assign Multi/Inst.' of section 'GLOBAL SETUP 10 or 01'):
  The switch 'Key Assign Multi/Inst.' is needed to activate the switches 'Single/Multi' of the single drum instruments. The XG default setting for this switch is 'Multi' - but only in position 'Inst' the switches 'Single/Multi' of the drum instruments will be activated! Therefore you should always enable position 'Inst' at 'GLOBAL SETUP'!
  The difference between 'Single' and 'Multi' of a drum instruments is:
  In position 'Single' a drum sample will be be stopped and restartet immediately after a new trigger (Note On), in position 'Multi' the already sounding drum sample will sound up to it's end after a new trigger (Note On), and a new sample will be started and sounding simultaneously.
